Back to the ice

I signed up to play in the 35 and over hockey league. It has been almost 1 year exactly since I was last on the ice. Last night was my first game. I started off feeling pretty good. But, I noticed that I was taking 60 - 90 second shifts where several of the players were taking 2-3 minute shifts. I sorta screwed up the lines because I could just not hang with the 3 minute shifts. They were killing me. So, when I got tired, I changed. It’s better than being out there and coasting, right?

Well, I scored 2 goals and I didn’t take any penalties and I didn’t have any absolutely horrible plays. We won 9-3. I felt like I played my position fairly well, though, I’m not all that comfortable playing on the left wing so it was a bit of a challenge.

I think it’s going to take me 3 or 4 weeks before I’m back in to any sort of steady flow. Hopefully, I’ll survive long enough to see that happen.

Countdown to severe back injury and months of pills in T minus 1 - 2 weeks.
