Shortest Tourney Ever
This evening I signed up for an online poker tournament that was going to start in about 10 minutes. Before the tournament started, I needed to get some food for the kids. So, I drove over to McDonald’s. On the way back, I get a phone call and am chatting with a buddy when I get back to the house. I explain to him that I’m about to play in the tourney as I walk upstairs and turn on the computer. I log in to the site, and it takes me to my table. The tournament had been running for about 7 minutes and I had already lost 25 chips to the blinds. The very first hand I get is pocket aces. So, when the betting comes around to me, I raise 100 chips. A guy two seats to my left re-raises to 270 chips. Everybody else folds and the betting comes back to me. I re-raise all-in (total of 975 chips). The other guy sits and thinks for about 30 seconds. The whole time I’m still chatting on the phone giving the play-by-play to my buddy. I’m chuckling that since this is the first hand I’ve played and I have pocket aces, I’m doomed. Well, the guy finally calls the bet and our cards are turned over. He has pocket kings. The flop is dealt out and my tournament is over. He has hit a king on the flop. Chances of catching an miracle ace are about 5%. The turn is dealt. No help. On the river, the 4th king. I do not get angry. As a matter of fact, I chuckle about it with my buddy for about 5 minutes. After the crazy weekend of poker, this was just a lovely finishing touch.
